Food Menu

Wards Bar and Bistro is perfectly situated to give you the most outstanding food from our beautiful corner of the world. Whether it is prime Exmoor beef, sustainably sourced fish or seafood from our local fishing fleet, or simply a sandwich using artisan-baked bread, we are sure we can cater for all tastes.

If you have any allergies or particular dietary requirements, please feel free to contact us before visiting so we can advise and make menu recommendations for you.

With advance notice, we are happy to provide bespoke meals, just let us know what you fancy and when you will be visiting and we can take care of the rest. So whether it is a child who will only eat dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets, Grandma who has to have liver and onions, a fussy vegan teen or just your favourite dish in the world, with a few days notice we would be delighted to accomodate you.

  • Whitebait, deep fried served with an aioli dip, mixed salad and a homemade Italian dressing. £8.50   
  • Classic Prawn Cocktail, served with a homemade cocktail sauce and crusty bread. £8.50
  • Pan Fried Mushrooms in a cream, garlic and white wine sauce, served with warm crusty bread. £8.50
  • Baked Camembert with Vermouth and Chilli Flakes, served with warm crusty bread, (Ideal for sharing) £10.95
  • Duck Liver and Pork Pate with Orange and Cognac Liquor, served with warm crusty bread £7.50

  • Chicken Breast served wrapped in Parma Ham with garlic butter glaze -  £18.95 
  • 10 oz Exmoor Ribeye steak,  grilled to your liking, served with cherry tomatoes and a homemade steak butter - £24.95  
  • Venison steak served with the chefs rich homemade Borderlaise sauce and served with cherry tomatoes - £24.95
  • Locally Caught  Fresh Seabass Fillets - £19.95
  • Locally Caught Fresh Hake Fillets served with a homemade caper sauce - £20.95
  • Devon Braised Belly Pork in a homemade Mediterranean Sauce -£17.95
  • Devon Lamb Shank served with a rich homemade red wine sauce - £22.95
  • Vegan Nut Roast (Mushrooms, Pumpkin seed and Chestnuts - £14.95

Steak Sauces: Homemade Blue Cheese, Peppercorn or Mushroom - £4.50 each                


All meals are served with fresh vegetables and a choice of potatoes.

Sunday Lunch

We serve Sunday lunch every Sunday, come rain or shine. Once its gone, its gone for the day though, and we do get busy. If you would like to book a table, just contact us.
